Registering a non-EU vehicle in Spain: final steps when you already have DUA and ITV

In short: you've completed 2 of 5 steps (Customs → DUA/H1; ITV → reduced technical sheet). 3 steps remain before 3 bodies (AEAT, City Council, DGT) plus buying plates. Estimated remaining cost: ~€250 + IVTM. Time: 2–4 weeks with prior appointments.

In person or by representative? It's mixed: the Form 06 (IEDMT exemption) is NOT filed online by the individual — it's in person with prior appointment at the AEAT (or a registered gestor files it for you); the DGT registration also requires a prior in-person appointment. A gestor can carry out all these steps for you.

Critical hint first: check field 47 of your DUA. If A00 (import duty) and B00 (VAT) show €0.00, the traslado de residencia regime is already applied at customs (field 37 'Régimen' will be 40.00 101). In that case, at AEAT you file Form 06 (IEDMT exemption, €0). If field 47 shows paid amounts, you file Form 576 (normal declaration-payment).

Use cases: Ukrainian Temporary Protection holder who imported their car and passed customs + ITV (see UA-PT card); any resident with a non-EU vehicle at the same stage (see general card).

Documents for the 3 remaining steps: DUA (your customs document with H1 certificate); ITV reduced technical sheet; original registration certificate (from country of origin); TIE; padrón certificate (≤3 months old); sale-purchase contract/invoice.

If your address is NOT Valencia city (e.g. La Pobla de Farnals, Paterna, Torrent, etc.) — IVTM is paid at YOUR municipal council, not at Valencia city. The DGT (Provincial Traffic Office) is in Valencia city and serves the entire province.

Steps:

  1. AEAT — Form 06 (if DUA shows exemption) or Form 576 (if you paid). Form 06 is filed in person (prior appointment) or by a registered gestor — NOT online by the individual (see how to fill in Form 06). Attachments: DUA, ITV technical sheet, contract, TIE. Result: CSV (electronic verification code needed for DGT).
  2. City Council — IVTM registration. Usually the DGT registration triggers it automatically; in some municipalities you must register manually. Call your council to confirm. Payment: ~€70–130/year by fiscal horsepower.
  3. DGT — Form 9050 with prior appointment at the Provincial Office. Documents: TIE + padrón + DUA + ITV technical sheet + CSV from Form 06/576 + IVTM (if requested in advance) + invoice + original registration. Fee ~€98. You receive Spanish plates and a provisional permit (the final card arrives by post).
  4. Physical plates at a specialised workshop: €15–30.
