In short: to enter Spain from outside the Schengen area, a foreigner may have to prove sufficient funds: EUR 122.10 per person per day and a minimum of EUR 1,098.90 per person, regardless of how long the stay is.
This update sets the reference amounts under Article 6.4 of the Schengen Borders Code (Regulation (EU) 2016/399) for Spain, tied to the minimum wage (the daily figure is 10% of the gross SMI; the overall minimum, 90%).
How to prove it: cash, certified or traveller's cheques, payment letters, or credit cards with an up-to-date bank statement or passbook. Internet-banking printouts are not accepted. For the return journey, a named, non-transferable, closed ticket may be required.
Important: this is a reference amount that border police may request; it does not by itself guarantee entry, which also depends on the purpose of travel, visa and other requirements.
